Food For the Body – What Types of Nutrients Are the Top Food Groups For Our Body?

Food is any material ingested to provide nutrition to an organism. Generally speaking, food is generally of plant, animal, or fungi origin, and has necessary nutrients, including proteins, vitamins, sugars, or other elements. The human body needs food to survive, and the various food types are categorized into four: animal foods, which include all animal protein; plant foods, which include all plant material; and fungi foods, which include all organic material, (in other words, dead organic material). Each food type has its own biological makeup and is able to absorb nutrients in specific proportions. All organisms derive nourishment from food.

Animal foods, such as meat and milk products, contain protein, fat, carbohydrates, and other nutrients that are necessary for protein synthesis. Plants, such as whole grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, and oils, contain carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are necessary for tissue maintenance and growth. Fungi, on the other hand, are made up of protein, carbohydrates, simple sugars, fats, and other nutrients that are necessary for cell regeneration, growth, and maintenance. Although most modern diets lack the required amounts of animal and plant foods, the good news is that a wide variety of foods from around the world can be added to a dietary fibre diet to ensure adequate supplies of the various food groups. These foods include: whole grain breads, cereals, pastas, crackers, yogurt, milk, yogurt-covered foods, eggs, poultry (such as chicken, turkey, chicken breast, goose, beef), fish, cheese, eggs, dairy products, honey, and fruits.

Although fruits and vegetables are often thought to be the most important food group, it is important to keep in mind that just about everyone needs some kind of nourishment, especially if you are young and healthy. A proper diet helps protect your body from a number of diseases and illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, hypertension, cancer, and other degenerative diseases. In addition, regular intake of a wide variety of nutrient-rich food can improve overall digestion and metabolism, thus boosting energy levels and helping you lose weight. However, if you are lactose intolerant or have a gluten intolerance, it is recommended to take some enzyme supplementation to help ensure adequate supplies of the right nutrients.
